The beginning of the Messianic Judaism of Jesus
The Messianic hope of those from Adam and Eve through the centuries was fulfilled in the Messianic Judaism of Jesus. The *hope* of redemption was nearly 4,000 years old but the destiny was fulfilled by Jesus Messiah (Mat 16:18). This Messianic hope was distinctly separate from and unlike the religious dreams of Pharisees, Saducees, Herodians, Talmudic Babylonians, and Hellenistic Jews. These groups were developed as substitutes and replacements of ancient Judaism that looked for the Messianic fulfillment. They were born either during the Babylonian exile, or in the Post-Babylonian resettlement of Jerusalem and Israel. These new sects within Judaism wrestled against one another over their own reinterpretation of the Scriptures to gather converts to their brand of Judaism. These used all manner of political and secret strategy to gain control of the national conscience both as to religious customs and also what the future political composition of Israel should be.
Into this mixing bowl of Judaism which was unlike ancient Judaism, came Jesus of Nazareth. We will not at this time describe all the events of his birth and life. These may be learned in reading the New Torah in Matthew and Luke. What is important is to know the forces at work to destroy Jesus and his Messianic Judaism.
As the son of David and heir to the Jewish throne, Jesus brought to the center of the struggle for control of Israel, the ancient Messianic Hope of the Kingdom of God rather than a political or worldly nation influenced by Babylonian, Roman, or Hellenistic culture. Although the other religious sects within Israel held beliefs concerning this special Messianic prophetic event, their secular structure did not provide for Messiah's coming or a spiritual (Godly) Kingdom, and indeed, their entire theologies were not focused upon these events.
The Messianic Judaism of Jesus came into existence at a time in the history of Israel when the prophecy of Daniel concerning the seventy weeks was realized to be unfolding and the temple cult and hierarchy was giving it no spiritual significance. Those who were keen on this prophecy had faith and hope that Messiah would appear in the seventieth week as predicted, and around 26AD the time had come when the son of David should appear. There was expectation and excitement among the outcast and lowly Jews.
The leading sects, such as the Pharisees and the Saducees, did not give these poor Jewish believers any immediate trouble, perhaps because there had been other alleged Messiahs which the temple faithful helped to get rid of. So, a new rumor that another Messiah had appeared, offered no threat for the the Pharisees and the Saducees who congregated around the temple compound for another day of fussing between them.
The Temple cult was soon troubled however: First, because they did not know to what extent the real Messiah would alter the temple hierarchy and High Priesthood, since currently that office was not held by a descendant of Aaron, but had been obtained by a political appointment using bribery and even murder. Second, they were unsure of how the Kingdom would be set up and who would be given prestigious offices within the new regime. Third, the argument as to who qualified to be called a Jew was rampant: the Pharisees were claiming they and their religious group were authentic Judaism and all others would need to convert to their theology or they would not be saved and enter the Kingdom after their Pharisee Messiah would appear and bring the last judgment; the Saducees made the same claims, saying that if the Pharisees and other sects did not return to their opinions of the Law, when their Saducee Messiah appeared and ushered in the judgment all others would be burned up.
These two groups believed that when *their* Messiah appeared, he would validate one or the other as the presiding religious authority in the Israel. But, when Jesus selected neither Pharisee or Saduccee as representatives of God and rejected both as spurious and false religions, is it any wonder these enemies made peace and confederated against him forming the first antichrist system on the Temple Mount? And now after nearly 1,972 years, there remains that ancient hatred being projected throughout the world by many Jews against Israel's Lord and Messiah.
The plan was, that if Jesus rejected and planned to replace them, they would respond by rejecting him and stomping out Christian Judaism and deny it as being Jewish all over the world. And so, the original antichrist were conceived and born on the Temple Mount. Some believe the antichrist must return to the Temple Mount before the second return of Jesus and there, endtime descendants of these ancient Pharisees will set up once again and renew world-wide persecution against Apostolic Christian Judaism and the believers who confess Jesus as Lord and the Messiah.
The Messianic Hope forms the Messianic Judaism
At the time the Messianic Judaism of Jesus was forming around the Messianic Hope, the Pharisees and the Saducees continued to politic against each other for control of the temple and also the spiritual conscience of all Israel. These struggles carried over into schemes where each sought political favors by kissing-up to and bribery of Herod the great, his descendants, Roman procurators, and even the throne of Caesar (see Josephus and John 19:12-15).
The climate was just right for each side to obtain religious cleansing (socially accepted killing), of those undesirable Jews the Pharisees and the Saducees wanted permanently eliminated. No one can estimate the number of corpses that were seen burning daily at the garbage dump at gehenna. And those killed and left for dead, their bodies strewn all over Israel and other places in the Roman Empire, no one knows the number.
To accomplish their *final-solution* upon unwanted Messianic Jews who did not belong to the predominate sects, a group was forged called the Zealots. The men of this secret order had for their focus to kill those whom the temple hierarchy fingered and condemned in secret palladiums (called councils in the KJV). The temple hierarchy manipulated this group also against Roman occupation of Jerusalem and Israel. A complete spy network was operated out of the temple and the secret underground passages. The Zealots took blood oaths and swore upon the temple that they would kill family, friend, or enemy without apprehension or reservation if so ordered out of the temple (similar to the Masonic oaths today).
These Zealots would attack those targeted, steal their goods and property and destroy their homes if they were accused of being Messianic followers of Jesus or if they were Roman sympathizers. They used the dagger with the utmost of skill and many fell in the market places and at different locations, to the vengeance of the Iscarri (Josephus Wars, Book VII, Chap VIII). They had for their fortress Masada, a remote mountain top retreat in the south desert accessible only from one side. From these Iscarri comes that infamous name Iscariot, which for some reason Jewish and Christian books and dictionaries have purged and cleansed, so the true association of Judas who was called Iscariot, cannot be linked to this secret temple cult and the Talmudic Pharisees.
Information helps us understand
It is vital that the world be provided with information to help understand why the Messianic Judaism of Jesus was born at a time of internal corruption and pollution of the religious streams in Judaism, who were usurping the place of God and establishing their claims as His exclusive representatives by traditions and laws of their own making, which they declared to be the Laws of God, with force and prejudiced cruelty.
With a basic foundation, the real religious Israel and the Messianic Hope are placed in contrast and perspective. And with this information, anyone could understand why Jesus would replace all of this corrupt Judaism and set up a new Israel wherein would dwell the righteousness of God. To go back and reinstitute the temple Judaism that existed in the days of Jesus as the people of God, is to err previously in favor of high treason, witchcraft, and apostasy. Jesus feel sorry for these and still want to give them a millennial Kingdom all of their own?
Why some assume God is sorry he took from these the Kingdom and he owes them some future reward or second chance because of circumcision or their having divine flesh and blood, is beyond comprehension. Such would call into question why Jesus at his first coming held out no special significance for circumcision, flesh and blood, Sabbath keeping, the lost Ark, red heifer ashes etc., but commanded all to repent and come into the Kingdom by being born again or be lost forever?
The reports that Jesus sneaked into the desert to the place of the lost Ark and there touching it, was turbo-charged and could then perform miracles, or that he went to Egypt or India and learned magic, or that he stole the tetragrammaton (YHVH) from the Temple, slit his skin hiding it beneath to remove later to pronounce and perform miracles, are all Jewish lies, fables, and falsehood. The Apostles did not go to India, Egypt, or chase after the lost Ark or sprinkle themselves with holy-water made with the ashes of a red heifer. And their being turbo-charged, if that is a good term, was in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, not sneaking off to touch the lost Ark, which if ever found would be like finding a corpse--the Law is dead, IT IS FINISHED!
The lost Ark and lost ashes of a red heifer held out no special focus for Jesus. Instead, we find that upon his very testimony, those who refused to come into his Kingdom would be disinfranchized from ever being able to claim they were the exclusive elect of God then, or in the future. Nothing about a lost Ark or red heifer ashes to help get them in. In fact, avoiding that fancy theory, Jesus said to all Israel, that if they did not believe and were not baptized, they would be damned (Mark 16:16). This prophecy has proved true for 1,972 years. Why should it fail now because an interesting false doctrine reports God is sorry he took from the Pharisees and the Saducees the Kingdom and now wants to give it to their descendants if they restore Talmudic Phariseeism, offer a red heifer, and rebuild a new temple with a rip-proof vail?
Why should a person convert to Acts 2:38 Messianic Judaism
Because there is no salvation within any other Judaism. Who could boast that they are proud to be of that Judaism that denied Jesus and betrayed him to be crucified upon the cross? And who would want to accept the blood libel brought upon that ancient Judaism of the *temple*, who said: "let his blood be upon us and our children?" This does not mean this blood libel is upon all Jews, but upon those in the Temple Cult who consented to the crucifixion at that time. It could also descend down to some today who in their synagogues of Talmudic Phariseeism, take sides with the temple cult in the crucifixion. On a similar level, anyone who agrees with Hitler killing Jews and continues that hatred, are just as guilty as those who killed them. The blood libel of the Temple Cult prohibits salvation being within any Judaism of the Pharisees and Saducees then or today. Messiah brought salvation, it is within Christian Judaism, and those who reject this Israel of God cannot be saved.
The coming of Messiah would usher in a new age. It would be the time of the New Covenant that had been prophesied by God through the prophet Jeremiah at 31:31. Moses had predicted the future Prophet, whom if any Jew refused to hear, they would be cut off from the nation of Israel and severed from the promises and blessings of Abraham (Deut 18:18-19; Acts 3:23).
This new Torah would become the replacement of the Torah that God made with the house of Israel when he brought them out of Egypt (Jer 31:31). The true people of God who would come under the Lordship of the Messiah would switch from the old Torah to the new Torah of the Kingdom (John 6:68). And whatsoever Jesus commanded the Apostles in doctrine would be the commandments of God or Torah of faith for the new Christian Israel.
Only those who believed Jesus was a replacement of Moses would be considered the Israel of God. As those who quit or apostate from Judaism or a Christian group, surrender all of their spiritual rights, so, God would cut off from Israel all those who refused to live Godly and prepare for the coming Kingdom (Luke 13:28). It was prophesied by the Prophet Isaiah that although the number of Israel increased in number to the equivalent of all the grains of sand by the sea, YET ONLY A REMNANT WOULD BE SAVED (Isa 10:22; Rom 9:27). That remnant would be *all* the Israel apart from the backslid Israel, that God would consider the true Israel. No one would say a Christian who became a reprobate was still a true Christian, and in the same sense, no Jew in the time of Christ who was reprobate concerning the Law could still claim he had unconditional rights to blessings and promises as an Israelite. Unconditional eternal security is not an Old Testament doctrine (Deut 27:14-26).
Conversion to the Messianic Judaism of Jesus is not accomplished by a ritual, mental acceptance, or joining a church. It must be a complete new birth. It must be by adoption (Rom 8:15; Eph 1:5). Even Jews must be adopted into this new family of God (Gal 4:5). And thus, Christian Judaism has both Jew and Gentile, all adopted, all equal heirs of the same blessings of Abraham through the New Covenant.
The Jews who would come into this Israel of God from the various religious sects within Judaism at that time, must repent of all their complicity and guilt for their own sins and the sins of their religious associations where their membership made them accessories to crimes against God. And, to pass off being an accessory through religious membership among the Pharisees, Saducees, the Zealots, and the Iscarri, because they did not have an actual hand in the sins, crimes, or murders, was inexcusable. They must still repent and come out from among them (Acts 2:36-37). Consent by means of membership, is as though one accepts the guilt of their superiors and comrades as his or her own guilt.
For this reason, no true Christian can belong to any hierarchical religious organization. They have all become polluted with sins and spiritual crimes using the same theory and idealism of the temple cult: (stand by authority, right or wrong). Any unity beyond simple fellowship becometh evil. And, within Messianic Judaism, Jesus Messiah is the head of the Church. The Apostles established the doctrines of Christ as our Torah of faith and practice as Jesus instructed them. This is the Rule of Jesus over us, not religious organizations and their oaths and creeds.
This Torah of Faith is called the Royal Torah in Jas 2:8. Any man who usurps headship over the Church and rules it in some capacity as Pope, President, Chairman, Superintendent, or Presiding Bishop, will ultimately have his hands polluted with sins, crimes, and spiritual murders, to the point, that all who hold membership with that leader are accessories to these crimes and the guilt.
Jesus sets Pastors over the true flocks of God where ever they exist. To abstain from the evils and sins of religious hierarchy, refuse to be tied to them even if they offer alleged "structure, shoulder-rubbing, political opportunity, doctrinal oversight, a license, government recognition, an insurance package, or a salvation card." The Messianic Judaism of Jesus was born *out from among* this Babylonian system of iniquity. And, in the endtime the Lord Jesus will call for his sheep to separate from the goats and come out of all religious organizations and denominations. Dare you not hear the voice of the Shepherd and stay among the goats because of opportunity?
Messianic Jews recognized themselves as the remnant
Messianic Judaism first existed was a small number of Jewish believers in Jesus from all of the twelve tribes. This remnant fulfilled the prophecies of Isaiah and the Apostles recognized themselves as that remnant (Rom 9:27, 11:5). It was then to them that the New Covenant was of extreme importance. The New Royal Torah would be compiled by them from the verbal teachings of Jesus into what is now the New Testament. And this collection of sacred writings are the basis of the faith of Jesus Messiah for those in the Messianic Judaism of Jesus.
It would follow then, that this new Judaism would clash with the Pharisees and the Saducees as they struggled to create their own community and religious identity as the true remnant of God. Those who believed Jesus to be the Messiah gave up all of their former religious convictions and beliefs and subjected themselves to be discipled into the new Israel, the Kingdom of God. That was where David's throne was and they wanted to be under that throne and glory. Through conversion to Jesus, lion of the tribe of Judah, they were brought under the rule and reign of that throne. Once they were converted, Jews and Gentiles alike became known as *Messianic Jews by choice* or *Jews by Choice.* Even Gentiles could become converts to this olive tree with full Messianic Jewish identity.
These converts, both from Jewish sects and Gentile nations, would be called Messiahians, that is God-followers of Jesus Messiah. The name *Messiahians* was replaced by the Greek word *Christians*. Requirements for conversion and adoption were the same for Jews and Gentiles (Acts 2:38). But for the first ten years of this new Judaism, there were only Jews from the twelve tribes adopted as converts. These were said to be added to the Israel of God by conversion. Even Apostle Peter had to be converted, after which he qualified to be a spiritual strength to the other Apostles and disciples (Mat 13:15, 18:3; Luke 22:32).
Conversion and adoption of the Gentiles
Then, in Acts chapters eight and ten, the Samaritans and Gentiles became converts and adoptees by special actions of the Lord Jesus through the Apostles. In each case, conversion to this new Messianic Judaism followed a careful pattern (Repentance, Baptism in water, and Baptism of the Spirit see Acts 2:38). From this humble beginning Messianic Judaism began to fill the earth with the everlasting Kingdom of God. The parable of the mustard seed growing into a large tree began to be fulfilled. This one body of believers did not escape notice by the temple compound or their spy network however.
There were continual persecutions, arrests, and murders. Christian Judaism did not find acceptance within *main-stream* Jewish religions manipulated out of the temple. Prayers were created in which Jesus was cursed as the worship of an idol, the Kingdom was cursed, and followers of Jesus Messiah were cursed. Indeed, bounty hunters were employed to seek out, infiltrate, and destroy those who had converted and were now cursed out of the Synagogues. After the murder of Stephen, the saints were scattered and went into hiding to flee from the wrath of the temple councils. Only when Saul was stricken down and converted, did fear fall upon the temple cult. Other bounty hunters quit their jobs out of fear of either being converted likewise or of the wrath of God. Then the sacred record reports the Churches and saints had rest (Acts 9:31).
Destroy Messianic Judaism not by persecution but by corrupting their doctrines
At this time there arose several different new forces to destroy the Messianic Judaism of Jesus from within the body of believers (a divide and conquer approach). These individuals called into question the authority of the Apostles and the doctrines they were teaching as the new Torah only by which a person could be saved. False apostles arose who claimed they also were followers of Jesus. Some of these might have been among those 58 who went back and walked no more with him (John 6:66 note the interesting *666* here?). Others were disciples who not having been taught by Jesus concerning the New Torah (New Testament), were not privileged to know what Jesus had instructed the Apostles concerning the Kingdom of God and evangelism of the entire world (Acts 1:1-3). They were also not privy to the teachings that salvation into this new Messianic Judaism was not by circumcision, Sabbath keeping, rituals of the Law, or animal sacrifices, but salvation would be by grace through faith, this being demonstrated in Repentance, Water Baptism in the name of Jesus Messiah, and receiving the promise of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).
So, these false Apostles and false teachers of the Law wanted to replace the new birth of grace and faith in being born again (John 3:3-5), with going back to practices of the Law, Sabbath keeping, circumcision, and observance of days and moons (Col 2:16). These who rose up against the Apostles were called Judaizers. These wanted to destroy Messianic Judaism, by returning the converts back under the control of the Talmudic Pharisees and Saducees and the temple cults. They attempted to use circumcision, Sabbath keeping, and observing other practices of the Law to accomplish this scheme. They wanted to corrupt the Apostles' doctrine that Jesus had delivered to them as the one Gospel of the Kingdom to the whole world. The Apostles effectively were able to counter this attack. The chasm between Talmudic Judaism and Messianic Judaism grew even wider.
God certifies the Messianic Judaism of Jesus and the Apostles
An great certification of Messianic Judaism came on the day of Pentecost when the fire that was once behind the vail in the temple was now split into 120 flames and sat upon the heads of those gathered in the upper room (see Acts 2:1-4). Another great certification came at the very time that God gave the Apostle Peter the vision at Joppa concerning the conversion of Gentiles to Messianic Judaism. It was further certified at the same time the Apostle Paul had a visitation from Jesus who instructed him as we find Paul reporting it in Acts 26:16-18). In this text, Jesus mentions nothing to Paul about bringing Gentiles to make them converts to the Law. The conversion was to be to Jesus and they would receive remission of sins and "INHERITANCE AMONG THEM WHICH ARE SANCTIFIED BY FAITH THAT IS IN ME (See also Gal 1:11-12)." So Law keepers need to get their doctrine right. Salvation is not in Law keeping but in Jesus Messiah.
Messianic Judaism was firmly certified. It was not be connected to old Covenant Judaism, which the temple cult wanted even at this time, to reinterpret the Scriptures and prophecies according to Babylonian Talmudic traditions to suit their own political purposes. And, since the temple cult had no proofs God had certified their traditions and doctrines as His own, why should anyone want to leave Messianic Judaism which God did certify with many undeniable proofs (the resurrection being only one), and go back under temple bondage to other replacement sects in Judaism which never had a visitation of God at any time, nor a man holy enough to be a Prophet among them. All they had were Babylonian Rabbis (sages, mystics), schooled in Cabalah and private reinterpretations?
The Ebonites or Jewish Gnostics rise against Messianic Judaism
The Ebonites were poor Jews who had come into Messianic Judaism but who were led astray by Babylonian mysticism then known only among the elite of the Pharisees. History gives us the indication that when Simon Magnus could not obtain the gifts of the Apostles, he sought for a way to convince these unlearned and poor Messianic Believers that the Apostles were in error on Scriptural interpretation. He mixed Jewish Gnosticism with a few beliefs within Messianic Judaism, and sprinkled this with practices of the Law (Sabbath keeping and other feast days). This mixture eventually turned the Ebonites into worshipers of a god in the form of a serpent.
In short time idols and images of the serpent appeared among the Ebonites as the *good god.* They believed Jesus was only a man upon whom a Christ spirit descended at his baptism (this doctrine is called Dynamic Monarchianism). The followers of Simon Magnus believed that the real Christ spirit departed from the man Jesus, and laughed at the Jews as they killed the man Jesus, because they didn't kill the Christ spirit at all. The Ebonites returned to Sabbath keeping and observances of the Law. The Apostles overcame this subtle attack with strong emphasis on teaching the Saints to remain in the faith as they had been taught. They also could point out the satanism mixed into this cult.
At about the same time, the Holy Spirit anointed the Apostles to establish the sacred history of the Church and set forth the true record of Jesus Messiah, his Ministry, and the identity of the Apostles he had chosen. With these precious writings, the Gnostics, false Apostles, and false prophets who were claiming they were the true disciples, prophets, and Apostles of Messiah, were defeated. Messianic Judaism conquered even yet another attempt to destroy the Israel of God by others plotting to corrupt and alter the doctrines and teachings of Christ which he ordained to be preached to all the world.
While Messianic Judaism struggled to continue on its world-wide mission, a network of unbelieving Jews united against the Apostles, so that in what ever city or nation they traveled, these would create dissension and trouble, hoping to cause the Gospel to be silenced by intimidation, persecution, and false prophets. The Jews created *anti-missionary* laws and also were able to get Gentile nations to enact the same laws throughout the middle east nations. The Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles give us incident after incident of these confrontations.
In spite of this hatred against Messianic Judaism, many Jews and Gentiles were converted to the faith of Jesus Messiah and the Church grew in large numbers. Now the word *Church* when taken to its root in the Septuagint Greek version of the Old Testament means Israel in an assembly of worshipers. So that when this Greek word was used to describe the body of believers, it was code for the Hebrew word *Israel.* Thus, those that gathered in these *Churches* considered themselves the *Israel of God.*
At this time, there appeared philosophers schooled in Platoism and Greek logic which was being passed off as science. Apostle Paul disputed with these and went among the schools of philosophy to gain first-hand experience in how to refute this rising threat against the Gospel of the Kingdom. His expertise and ability to debate saved many from being led astray and on this front the Church was safe until the Council of Nicaea where 275 years after the Apostle Paul, Platoism was finally adopted via the trinity reinterpretation of the Godhead. True Messianic believers do not believe in the trinity doctrine. They believe that Jesus was God Almighty in human form come to visit the earth.
The finished Cannon and the dark ages
The Jesus Messiah Fellowship believes that just prior to 70AD the completion of the New Covenant Torah as a working and living organism was complete (A. T. Robertson: Redating the New Testament). The Apostles were scattered after the 70AD destruction of Jerusalem and to our knowledge there were no additional sacred writings compiled. If there were, they were destroyed either under Jewish or Gentile persecution. The faith of Jesus was concealed within these sacred text and those who were enemies of those writings continued to try and destroy Christian Judaism even more by corrupting copies of the scrolls and or their interpretation concerning faith, doctrine, and practice. There have been several attempts to translate these sacred records and insert into them error by means of interpolation of wrong words. Jerome was hired to insert the trinity language and make many hundreds of changes, some based upon the corruption of the Old Testament by Aquila (100-130AD). While we hold the KJV to be the best version in the English language, we do at the same time recognize the many errors and interpolations of wrong words in several places.
Out of this confusion arose the need to identify false reinterpretations from what was considered the sacred interpretations. The sacred interpretations were called APOSTOLIC TRUTH and the false reinterpretations were called error or heresies. Today, Messianic Judaism will raise the banner of Truth while others talk about church traditions, creeds, dogmas of men, by-laws, manuals of discipline, and Rabbi and Pontifical infallibility. And within these systems of men, they are as unlike the original Messianic Judaism of Jesus in the Bible as night and day. Is it any wonder then, that when the Catholic Church was born in 325AD, that the world was plunged into the Dark Ages where Rome held control over the world and the minds and lives of nearly everyone born upon the earth?
Step by step, darkness is overcome by the light of Truth
After centuries of true the Messianic Judaism of Jesus being persecuted, banished, and thousands murdered by Rome, the true light has began to shine again. To put out this light, persecution, purges, pogroms, and hatred were practiced against those seeking to recover the first century original religion and faith of the Messianic Believers. These hate-mongering multitudes were incited and led by the Pope and his Bishops. These offered rewards and even eternal salvation if anyone would expose those who talked against Catholicism or tried to convert Catholics to believe the Scriptures and not trust in creeds, Papal Bulls, or Church traditions and sacraments. Over these centuries several Jews joined Rome and became Catholics and helped in this bloodshed. Catholicism has nothing good to say about these of Gentile Monarchians calling them Modelist and Sabellians, as if this slander makes Rome right in her Plato-trinity doctrine. In fact however, the Monarchians were Jewish and converted Gentile Messianic. The Lutherans, Baptist, Methodist, Charismatics, and other Evangelicals will run to Rome for an opinion against the Monarchians or some other group they want to hate, but when Rome writes something against the Lutherans, Baptist, Methodist, Charismatics, etc, then these groups claim Rome cannot be trusted to report the truth?
The Messianic Judaism as found in your Bible must still overcome prejudice and discrimination from within Judaism, Catholicism, and Protestantism. And, the true light of Acts 2:38 Messianic Judaism gets even brighter each and every year we approach the coming of Jesus. The reason is simple: In the endtime before the second coming, the original Gospel of Messianic Judaism must once again be preached in all the world for a witness and then shall the end come.
